About the position The Principal Policy Advisor at the Governor's Office of Information Technology (OIT) plays a vital role in aligning the department's technology initiatives with relevant laws, regulations, and policies. This position involves monitoring existing policies, managing the creation of new policies, assessing their impact, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure compliance and advocate for the department's interests. The role is remote and open to current employees of OIT, focusing on improving the lives of Coloradans through innovative technology solutions. Responsibilities • Analyze proposed policies and standards to assess their potential impact on the department's operations and strategic goals. • Monitor existing policies and standards for necessary updates due to new legislation or regulations. • Prepare clear and concise summaries and reports on policy developments for internal stakeholders. • Manage internal staff inquiries and communications regarding the policy creation and change process. • Collaborate with legal counsel and subject matter experts to ensure compliance with relevant policies and standards. • Facilitate the development and implementation of new internal policies and procedures to support compliance efforts. • Support the department's interests in internal and external policy discussions and forums. • Manage and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with open records laws. • Stay informed about federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies impacting the technology sector. Requirements • A minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated full-time professional experience performing legal research and analysis, working in a legislative or public policy environment, or closely related work. • Experience working with elected officials at local, state, and federal levels and/or Colorado counties. Nice-to-haves • Demonstrated ability to interpret Colorado statutes and translate them into operational policies and standards. • Prior government affairs experience in Information Technology (IT), Accessibility, Cyber Security, or Broadband. • Juris Doctor (JD) or Master's or doctorate degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science, Law, Public Health, Environmental Health, or closely related degree. • Ability to research, analyze, and assess regulations and recommend potential actions. • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and public speaking skills. • Ability to translate and communicate complex topics in various forums, tailoring communications to fit and influence the target audience.
