About the Role As the Custodian Head - Elementary, you will play a vital role in ensuring the district's elementary schools are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and safety. This leadership position requires a strong understanding of custodial practices, excellent supervisory skills, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse team of staff members. Key Responsibilities Supervise and Perform Custodial Tasks: Schedule and monitor building cleaning and maintenance tasks, exercise on-site supervision and evaluation, and provide direction to custodial staff members. Maintain Facilities: Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of school buildings, grounds, and equipment, including classrooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, and playgrounds. Operate and Maintain Equipment: Operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs to powered custodial equipment, including vacuums, strippers, waxers, buffers, and shampoo cleaners. Groundskeeping: Maintain grounds, including sidewalks, parking lots, common areas, playgrounds, and planting areas, by picking up litter and trash, mowing grass, weeding planting areas, and irrigating. Snow Removal: Perform snow removal duties, including sanding and salting walkways, to ensure safe access to school facilities. Minor Maintenance: Perform minor maintenance tasks, including changing light bulbs, minor plumbing and electrical repairs, painting, and classroom repairs. Event Support: Set up and break down after special events, ensuring that facilities are prepared for and restored to a safe and clean condition. Inventory Management: Maintain sufficient inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring that custodial staff have the necessary resources to perform their duties. Communication and Teamwork: Communicate effectively with school administrators, teachers, and staff members to ensure a team approach to maintaining a clean and safe learning environment. Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: High School Diploma or GED: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience: Two (2) years of school custodial experience is preferred. Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of custodial practices, materials, and equipment; ability to supervise and train employees; effective communication and interpersonal skills. Physical Abilities: Sufficient physical ability to lift objects up to 70 pounds, maneuver power cleaning equipment, and stand for up to four hours. Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and comprehend English at the 8th grade level; ability to complete basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, at the 8th grade level. Preferred Qualifications Previous Supervisory Experience: Experience in supervising custodial staff is highly desirable. Technical Skills: Familiarity with HVAC systems, irrigation systems, and other facility management systems is an asset. Certifications or Training: Relevant certifications or training in custodial practices, safety procedures, or facility management are a plus.
